Oscar Wesley Ackley, 101, of Chalk Bluff, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016 in Waco.
Graveside Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28, at Moore Cemetery in Chalk Bluff with Pat Cummings officiating along with the United States Army Honor Guard delivering military honors.
Oscar was born April 17, 1915 in Sioux Rapids, Iowa to Henry Jean Ackley and Agnes Dorothy Burg. He was a veteran of WWII having served with the US Navy as an Aviation Chief Machinist’s Mate. He married Verna Ruth Birdwell on September 8, 1943 in Corpus Christi. They have been residents of the Waco area since 1985.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and children, Larry Wesley Ackley and Dianne Ackley Wood
Oscar is survived by his wife of 72 years, Verna Ackley; grandchildren, Zachary Wood, Kelly Pond and Dena Shelton; niece, Susan Vieregge and husband, Bruce; and nephew, Trent Payne and wife, Cindy.
