It is with great sadness that I heard of Bro. Porterfields passing. He will be greatly missed and remembered by everyone who knew him. Ken was my Sunday school teacher & my bible quiz coach. He was a lot of fun. He cared about us. The way that he believed in us definitely made an impression on my life. I remember being able to go to him with anything – he answered our questions (no matter how silly) in a way we could understand without confusion. That’s important at that age and he knew that. I’m thankful for his guidance.

Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed – in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” Corinthians 15:52-56

Deepest condolences and prayers for the family. Ken has been working on my copier for more than 10 years, and though I’ve never met his family, I feel as though I know them through his stories and pictures. My heart broke when I learned of his death; but I feel sure that he will make an excellent angel now for the Lord. God’s blessings to you all as you learn to go on without him.

People like Ken Porterfield don’t come around very often. For forty years, we were blessed to call him “our dear friend.” There just aren’t enough words to express how much he meant to our entire family.

Sandy, Shane & Katrina, we pray that God wraps you in His loving arms and gives you a peace that only He can give.
