Hollis Windell Phillips

Phillips 5

Hollis Windell Phillips, 86, of Eddy, passed away October 8, 2014 at a local care facility.

Funeral Services: 3PM Saturday, October 11th at Bruceville Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Eddy Cemetery.

Visitation: 6 to 8PM Friday, October 10th at Lake Shore Funeral Home.

Hollis Windell Phillips was born February 27, 1928 to Isaac M. and Minnie K. (Maricle) Phillips in the Beulah Community of Falls County. Windell married Ruby Marie Simmons on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1948 and loved her for 65 years. They had two daughters, Kimberly and Tracy. Windell loved classic country music. The TV was always on the RFD channel or a rerun of an old western. He enjoyed a good book and always shared them with friends. Ruby’s cooking was the best, but he was mostly interested in what was for dessert. Windell loved going out to eat with friends Tommie and Gary Davis at Texas Roadhouse. He was very patriotic and loved his country. Windell flew the American Flag proudly. He was proud of his service in World War II, his education in a one room school house, and his long time membership to Bruceville Baptist Church. His strong faith in God was inspirational to us all. Words cannot express how much we will miss you, and we will forever carry you in our hearts.

Windell was a loving and generous husband, father, and grandfather. He loved us all unconditionally, but he was most proud of his great-grandchild Cooper.

Windell was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ralph, Oland, Addice, Coyt, Maurice, and Kenneth Ashley; and sisters Mattie Edna and Vona Lee.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby; daughters, Kimberly Phillips Shunk and husband, Richard of La Porte and Tracy Phillips Crawford and husband, Jayson of Galveston; grandchildren. Mandy Mace Burnett and Jeremy Todd Mace; great-grandchild, Cooper Todd Burnett; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to Providence Hospice Place.
