Fred Hawkins, 81, of Waco, passed away Saturday, March 21st at a local hospital.

Funeral Service: 2PM Wednesday, March 25th at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation: 10AM to noon, prior to the service at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco.

Private Burial: DFW National Cemetery.

Fred was born on January 8, 1934 in Elkin, NC to Gaither and Maddie (Felts) Hawkins. He served for 12 years with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Betty Farrar on February 6, 1954 in Tupelo, MS. He worked as a truck driver for 32 years and then became a safety manager and leading expert regarding D.O.T. compliance for the DFW area.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include wife of 62 years, Betty Hawkins of Waco; son, Aaron Hawkins of Waco; grandson, Anthony Hawkins; brother, Clyde Hawkins and wife Belvin of Monroe, NC; sisters-in-law, Zula Stover of Frisco and Lola Hicks of Weatherford; adopted daughter, Becky Woolever and husband Rick of Lewisville, TX; nieces, Sue Rasul, Betty Burks, Shiela Blechle, and Shelly Farrar Coleman; nephews, Calvin and Randy Stover, Vance Dalton, Billiy Farrar, Ricky Hicks, Royce Country, and James and Steven Hicks and their beloved families.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
