Dwight Chandler, 82, lovingly known as “Buddy”, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Veteran’s Medical Center in Temple.

Celebration of Life Service: Friday, August 11th at 3:00PM at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco.

Dwight was born one of ten children, December 24, 1934 in Temple to the John Knowlton and Bernice Asbury Chandler. He was raised in the Maysfield area and graduated from Cameron High School. Buddy served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959. Buddy work on the oil rigs as a chain man and finally worked with his uncle in the lumber yard. He later went to work for Gross-Yowell Lumber in Killeen, as a Yard Foreman and Contractor Sales. Buddy met the love of his life, Leta Faye Bird while serving in the US Army, they became pen-pals. Buddy and Leta married, December 12, 1959. Buddy and Leta lived in the Killeen area until 1986 when they moved to China Spring. He worked for Gross-Yowell Lumber, Yowell Lumber, and Walker Kurth Lumber for over 29 years in Killeen before moving to China Spring where he went to work for Gross-Yowell Lumber in Waco for another 10 years. Even after retiring Buddy, worked for another 10 years for Kerr Refuse.

Buddy’s had a passion for fishing. He fished in rivers and lakes all over Texas. Taking his two sons with him whenever he could. Camping each trip was a highlight. Buddy also enjoyed hunting and gardening. He grew some of the best watermelon you ever tasted. Buddy was a great dad and a wonderful friend, he never met a stranger. His family could not go anywhere with him that they did not see someone he knew. He loved to talk to folks, especially about fishing. Buddy was beloved by many and will be deeply missed. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bernice Chandler; his eight siblings, infant Donald Chandler, Kathryn Young, Frances Shaw, James Chandler, Doris Elliott, Minnie Maynard, John “Bill” Chandler, and David Chandler; and his son-in-law, Willie Roberts.

Buddy leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of over 57 years, Leta Faye Chandler; his children, Michael “Mike” Chandler, Marc Chandler and his wife Donna and Lisa Roberts; sister, Marilyn Johnson; beloved grandchildren, Jeremy Roberts and wife Elena, Jessica Millsap and husband Kelly, Colby Chandler and Colin Chandler; great-grandchildren, Scarlett Paige Millsap and William Allen Roberts; along with numerous other loving family members and a host of friends.
