Bonifacio Garcia Romo, lovingly known to most as “Barney”, 59 a native of Waco, passed away at his home, Tuesday, September 19, 2017.

Memorial Gathering: Family and friends will gather, Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 11:00AM to 2:00PM at Geneva Hall, 740 South Connally Drive in Elm Mott, for a time of sharing memories and a potluck dinner. The family request that you please bring a dish.

Barney was born December 23, 1957 to the late Roberto Sanchez Romo, Sr. and Mary Garcia Romo. Barney had a silly fun spirit that kept everyone smiling and laughing. Barney married his love, Dolores Vasquez, in Waco, February 20, 1998. Barney was an avid avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he would only watch their games and made sure that everyone around him was a Dallas fan. There was no answering the phone or carrying on conversation during a game, unless it was about the game.

Barney and Dolores enjoyed traveling across Texas, never really having a set place to go just getting on their Goldwing and hitting the road. Barney loved riding his motorcycle, even taking his young granddaughter on rides, strapping her to him with a belt. Barney also enjoyed gambling at the casinos, winning greatly on .80 cents the weekend before his passing at Winstar. When he was not on the road or in the casino, Barney enjoyed working on cars and trucks. Barney worked as a machine technician for the Waco Tribune for over 35 years before retiring.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents, Roberto and Mary Romo; son, Emilio Sanchez; sister, Alice Ordonez; nephews, Mario Felan, Martin Felan and Michael Beccerra; and mother-in-law, Leonor Garcia Vasquez.

Barney leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Dolores Vasquez Romo; children, Anna Herrera and husband, Larry, Rosa Sanchez, Edward Sanchez and wife, Rosie, Belinda Perez and husband, Robert, Lacie Tillman and husband, Glen, Nick Romo, Jacob Martinez, Eric Martinez, and Guenevere Leeann Jimenez; 33 grandchildren; 3 brothers and 3 sisters; his best friends and “partners in crime”, Rodney Walker, Ralph Ramirez and Gerald Freeman; along with numerous nieces and nephews and other loving friends and family.
