Betty was born January 24, 1931 in The Grove, TX to the late Key and Ida Bell Evans Odom. After graduating high school, Betty attended and graduated from the 4C Business College here in Waco. As a young woman, Betty competed as a stock car racer, at the Heart of Texas Speedway “Powder Puff Derby”. She married the love of her life, Glen Richard Martin in July of 1950. Together they enjoyed traveling across country on their Honda Gold Wing. As well, for many years, they owned and operated, “Discover America”, a bus touring company. They assisted countless people to travel and see the amazing sites of our country. Betty’s true passions in life were fishing and quilting. She was an avid fisherman, casting her line everyday that she could even as she was dealing with dialysis schedule in later years. Betty was known to have stocked the freezer of numerous friends and was said to be able to “out fish” the best of the best. Family and friends will long cherish Betty’s handy work on quilts that she sewed for them, finding a perfect quilting fabric on sale brought her great joy. When not out on the lake fishing or sitting at her quilting machine, Betty was as well an avid GameBoy enthusiast, and she was good. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Key and Ida Bell Odom; her infant daughter and her loving husband of 65 plus years, Glen Richard Martin in 2015.

Betty leaves to cherish her memory her cousins, Billy Joe Evans and wife, Linda, Kenneth Evans and wife, Pam and Annette Herbert and husband, Dennis; her neighbor, dear friend and running buddy, Tena Price and husband, George Blackshear; second cousins, Jennifer Riggs, Laura Smith and husband Kevin and Tyra Kosar and husband, Jon Steed; third cousins, Aaliyah Lewis, Aaryn Lewis, Elijah Lewis, Chandler Smith, Kathryn Smith, Claire Smith, Hunter Kosar, Chelsea Kosar and Kade Kosar; along with numerous other friends and fishing buddies. Betty’s feisty and witty take on life will be deeply missed.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the numerous people that have lent their support, cards and gifts over the last couple of years. Betty was given such joy by hearing your cards being read, photos of your dogs and cats and was amazed that you cared so much.
