Betty Lou (Dosher) Hastings, 86, of Chalk Bluff, TX passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Providence Hospice Place in Waco, with her children at her side.

Graveside Service: 11AM Saturday, September 3rd at Rosemound Cemetery.

Visitation: 6 to 8PM Friday, September 2nd at Lake Shore Funeral Home.

Betty (MeMe to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren) was born on April 9, 1930 in Waco, TX to the late John and Daisy Dosher. She attended Speegleville schools and graduated from Waco High in 1947. After contracting Polio in the summer of 1949, she had to relearn to walk with crutches, relearn to write with her right hand and overcome many other daunting physical obstacles. On April 27th, 1956 she married Donald Edward Hastings. They were blessed with two children, Gregory Alan Hastings and Donna Lu (Parker) Hastings. She worked with the March of Dimes spreading Polio awareness and was named “Polio Mother of the Year” in 1959. She retired from Merrill Lynch in 1982. Following retirement, Betty enjoyed camping with her family, spending time with her grandchildren and attending their many activities, and watching QVC. Although mostly homebound over the last few years, she enjoyed keeping up with the busy lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Donald Hastings and her beloved dog Maggie.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Greg Hastings and wife Cindy of Keller, TX; daughter, Donna Parker and husband Boyd of Waco, TX; grandchildren, Amy Wilson and husband Derek of Decatur, TX, Jeffrey Hastings and wife Donna of Flower Mound, TX, Reylan Will and husband Michael of Waco, TX, Kimberly Garcia and husband Carlos of Saginaw, TX, and USAF Capt. Holly Parker currently serving at Osan AFB in South Korea; great-grandchildren Daniel, Jacob, Luke and Delaney Wilson, Kylie Brown and Lillian Hastings, Mason, Bowan and Makenna Will, and Caiden and Christian Garcia; siblings Sue Anderson, John Dosher, Jr. and wife Lorraine, and Bill Dosher and wife Doris, all of Waco, TX; and many friends and neighbors.

Pallbearers will be Derek Wilson, Jeff Hastings, Carlos Garcia, Paul Beene, Daniel Wilson, Jake Wilson, Luke Wilson, Mason Will and Caiden Garcia. Honorary pallbearer is Michael Will.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for excellent care given to Betty at Providence Health Center on 3 East, especially nurse Donna Jean. Also the family offers a special thanks to all the staff at Providence Hospice Place. They would also like to thank all of the caregivers who have been such a help and comfort to Betty in recent years including Patty, Vicki,Patricia, Kelli, Kim and especially her special helper and friend Rosie Moye. Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice Place or Parkview Baptist Church.
